Profile Extrusion
In a general sense, all shaped or configured extrusions are profile extrusions, whether tubular or another geometric cross-section in form. Any extrusion that is not a flat sheet or film product is often referred to as a profile extrusion.
Basically, any plastic extrusion that is not a flat sheet or film product. However, Pexco tends to distinguish between open profile configurations and extrusions versus closed ones. And more to the point, closed configurations of simple geometries are often better referred to as tubes.
Custom Plastic Co-Extrusion
Co-extrusion is the process by which more than one plastic material is simultaneously worked through a die, utilizing two or more extruders to manufacture a part that has two resins of differing properties.
Pexco operates multiple co-extruders across its business platform. Common applications are transparent and opaque sections in the same extrusion in lighting applications or creating a hinge using a flexible material — or even possibly a gasket extruded directly onto a rigid part.
Crosshead Extrusion
Crosshead extrusion is a common term in the wire and cable manufacturing industry.
However, for specialty and other custom plastic applications, Pexco also makes use of the technology, which effectively draws a wire or other type of metal shape through a melt extrusion which in turn coats and envelops the wire.
Custom Plastic Tri-Extrusion
Tri-extrusion is basically the same process as co-extrusion, except with three different materials to create a part instead of just two.
Custom plastic tri-extrusion is used to create an extruded part with multiple performance characteristics related to the different types of plastic materials. Common applications include transparent and opaque sections in the same extrusion for lighting applications, creating a hinge using a flexible material, or even possibly a gasket extruded direction onto a rigid part.
Tube Extrusion
Custom tubing is created when molten plastic polymers are pushed through a die, creating a hollow profile design well suited for a variety of applications. Our expertise covers various types of tubing including our nationally recognized line of misting and fogging tubing. The Pexco family of companies offers a range of tubing extrusion styles, including heat shrink, non shrink, recoil and stock tubing.
Fluid Handling
Pexco offers a range of fluid handling tubing solutions for applications as diverse as corrosive chemical environments or solutions for ultrapure water. From polyamides to fluoropolymers, our materials expertise includes Nylon, PSU, PTFE, FEP, PFA, UHP PFA, PVDF, THV, PVDF FLEX, THV FLEX, PVC, and more. And when it comes to high performance fluoropolymers, we use 100% virgin grade high-performance resins. These resins provide the best physical and chemical properties for demanding applications.
We even stock a selection of tubing from 1/16" to over 3" in diameter. If you are looking for tubing solutions for your fluid control processes, look no further.
Acrylic
Pexco is an expert extruder of acrylic material (PMMA) – primarily used for Lighting applications. Extruded UV resistant acrylic profile lenses come in a variety of formulations, ranging from custom blends for exceptional hiding power for LED applications to impact resistant specialty custom products.
Polycarbonate
Polycarbonate (PC) is a naturally transparent thermoplastic material, best known for its extremely high impact strength, high heat resistance and optical clarity.
PVC
Better known as “PVC” or “Vinyl”, Polyvinyl chloride is one of the most recognized and commonly used thermoplastic materials in the world. PVC is produced in two general forms, first as a rigid polymer (RPVC) and second as a flexible polymer (FPVC), which contains a petro-chemical called plasticizer, used as a softening agent.
Polyethylene
Pexco extrudes Polyethylene parts across a variety of market applications, ranging from privacy fence slats to filtration media to other general custom plastic components.
ABS
ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) is an opaque thermoplastic polymer. It is an inexpensive, strong, stiff plastic that holds up well to external impacts.
Polyurethane
Polyurethane is a very versatile, thermoplastic material. It combines the best properties of plastic and rubber.
Polysulfone
Polysulfone (PSU) has one of the highest service temperatures among all melt-processable thermoplastics.
PVDF
Polyvinylidene fluoride, or PVDF, is a high performing, cost-competitive polymer used in harsh environments due to its superior chemical resistance, wide-ranging working temp range and abrasion resistance.
Value Added Services
Pexco offers the full range of post-extrusion fabrication systems, allowing our customers to pare down the number of suppliers needed to produce a final part.
Many of Pexco’s plastic extrusion fabrication offerings, including drilling, machining and tape application, as well as assembly and producing part kits, are available at each site. Our skilled engineering staff provides tool design and development, followed by prompt and efficient fabrication.
